Random Facts

Friday, January 20, 2012

{my first grade photo}

It's the bits of random that really tell us about other people. Not all the shine and sparkle - but those embarrassing, revealing, unique little quirks that set us apart. I love noticing these in others.

So, here's a few bits of random about me:

  • My name is pronounced uh-lee-suh   (been kindly correcting folks my whole life :)
  • I read magazines back to front.
  • At five years old I put this on my Christmas list, "I want to dance on stage with Bruce Springsteen."  still hoping...
  • In elementary school I wanted to be an architect.  I sketched books full of blueprints for deluxe log cabins.
  • I've been vegetarian/vegan almost entirely since 4th grade.
  • I am mostly deaf in my right ear.
  • I climbed Half Dome in Yosemite. I cried the whole way, but made it to the top.
  • I dream of someday owning enough land to rescue animals.
  • I have always set my alarm clock for odd numbers like 4:03 am.
  • I wave at other drivers when they do something nice.
  • Every summer I choose a nonfiction topic to read about like impressionist painting or apartheid-- though the last 4 years have mostly been business + babies.
  • I've attended over two dozen country music concerts. They make my heart smile.

So, please tell me something wonderfully random about you! I truly would love to hear.

Hehe - I do the alarm thing too, always with a 3 or 6.

I have seen Pearl Jam 7 times, but your concert number has me thinking I should count up ALL my concerts someday soon.

I sat here for a few minutes trying to think of that random thing that I was just discussing with my friend. It was totally normal for me & she thought it was so weird, so we asked around & turns out, it was strange. But I can't for the life of me remember what it was! I guess because it is my normal.

Also, I wish I had known long ago that is how you pronounce your name...here I have been thinking it wrong all this time!

There's this lil funny thing, ever since we've been together, me and the bf have gone to an Iron Maiden concert together every year, hoping they go on tour this year too to not break the tradition!

I wanted to be an architect in grade school, too. I used to draw houses shaped like "M"s (from an aerial view) because my name starts with M. When I was preparing for college and found out the architecture program was five years, I said "No way! I cannot go to school for five more years!" So I chose Psych and finished in three. I liked it, but now that I'm older and wiser, I definitely see the error of my ways. :)

I love old school country music singers like Dolly Parton, Crystal Gayle, the Judds, Ronnie Milsap, and more.

I don't tell too many people that;)

I bite my hand when I'm really mad and have been doing it since I was about 5 b/c I wanted to be like my older sister. She stopped a long time ago, and I have a scar on that hand. I wanted to be an Olympic sprinter when I was 10. Love random facts, and I'm so impressed by your summer reading concept. Will remember to try that! Here's a pic of me in 3rd grade. http://daisyjanie.typepad.com/daisyjanie/2008/05/ive-been-tagged.html

I won a cake-decorating contest at a school carnival night when I was 7. My mum and I made a pink bunny with liquorice whiskers. It was pretty cool. It was the first time I could picture something happening and it actually did. Magic when you're 7.

In High school chapel (private school) the question was asked "what do you want to be when you grow up?" . To which I replied " a cat walker". I was surprised to hear so much snickering from the audience until I realized that they really thought I wanted to walk cats. No, I wanted to walk the runway, and I was innocent enough at the time to think that everyone knew what the term "cat walker" meant.

Ahh, this was great! I have been pronouncing your name wrong all along. Got it now though.

I too have the same trouble. Everyone pronounces my name like Megan {meg-en} when it's actually Meagan {may-gen}. So there's something else we have in common... people always saying our names wrong!

I found your blog via Mollie Makes magazine. Love. I, too, read magazines from back to front.
