Corner Decor Ideas
Ever face a home corner and not sure what to do with it? I’ve faced many of these in the homes I’ve lived in. From wasted kitchen space to awkward little nooks, some corners are really a challenge! Over time, I’ve gathered up some tried and true tips to make good use of corner space. I work on creating not only functional spaces but adding some design as well. Here are some of my top corner decor ideas to help out your home.
Kitchen Corner Shelf
One of my favorite ways to make the best use of an unused kitchen counter is to add corner shelving. These are both functional but also add warmth and detail, something many kitchens need. I created a complete step by step tutorial, How to Make Corner Shelves which goes through all the steps to making these.
Corner shelves are a great option when a cabinet is not an option or simply not a design choice. I used square shelves but rounded or triangle type shelves would also work well.
Bedroom Corner Office
I’ve lived in a few different homes and each have had an extra little bedroom corner that is essentially wasted space. Or, more accurately, we know it will just accumulate clothes and random things. In each of these rooms, I’ve created a bedroom corner office to make good use of this area.
Whether it was for actual work or more of a writing nook or vanity, having a set up really made this area more functional. This is one one of my favorite corner decor ideas.
Living Room Corner
Living room corners can be a tricky area to decorate! In general, I’d say that most living room corners benefit from height. This can come from many things but I typically look for bookshelves, lamps, and vertical plants.
Using a tall free standing bookshelf can be a great way to decorate a living room and is one of my favorite corner decor ideas. It adds height and weight to a room – often living rooms are “heavy” in the middle with couches and coffee tables. A bookshelf can balance things out. They are also a great way to add storage and decorate to show your style. I love styling bookshelves and have more tips, How to Style a Bookshelf.
Empty Corners
With all this said, not every corner needs something. Many corners need space for flow or doors opening. If adding items will obstruct functionality or make it hardware to use the room, then it’s best to leave more minimal. With these type of corners, I typically focus on vertical artwork or a small wall shelf.
Corner Decor FAQs
To turn a corner into a reading nook, follow this formula; Choose a comfortable chair, add a small side table then a floor lamp or wall sconce. Finish with a cozy throw blanket and pillow.
The easiest way to brighten a corner is by adding a tall floor lamp. To save space, consider a wireless sconce mounted on the wall.
For bedroom corners, consider a vertical floor mirror, tall plant in a stand, or a small vanity desk.
