3 Organic Modern Window Treatments
So, what to do with this window? When decorating a space, we often overlook the important of window treatments. Typically, we just go with the default white shade. And, what about small or weird shaped windows – then what? Not only do we need to solve some issues like privacy and light, window treatments make a big statement. The good news is they can also be an easy update! In keeping with a more organic modern style, I’m sharing my three favorite modern window treatments strategies for any space.
Ok, first – what is a window treatment? Well, it’s just a fancy word for saying how you are going cover or decorate the window.
This might be curtains, blinds, shades, valances, or any other way you cover or dress a window.
1. Neutral Curtains
Besides white shades, curtains are kind of the go to window treatment. Easy to find, fairly easy to hang, and can be switched up.
I love neutral, linen curtains. They filter light beautifully and provide texture – a component needed in most spaces. To create darker spaces (like bedrooms at night) or keep in heat, add a blockout liner.
When to Use: Great for rooms that need some visual height. They also work well when you only occasionally need privacy (unless you like pulling back every day).

2. Woven Wood Shades
Woven wood shades are my all time favorite window treatments. Youโll find them in every home Iโve lived in and any window someone lets me get my hands on.
They check off so many design boxes including warmth, texture, privacy options, and natural lighting.ย I swap out traditional blinds for these when I can. They just have so much more design power and appeal.
Made from materials like bamboo, jute, or rattan, these shades bring warmth and organic charm. They filter light beautifully, creating a cozy ambiance, while still offering privacy.
Tip: Combine woven shades with simple curtains for a layered look that feels effortlessly stylish.

3. Keep It Bare
So this is a twist. But guess what, every window doesnโt need to be covered! For those who love an open, minimalist aesthetic, leaving windows bare is a bold statement.
This works especially well in spaces with stunning views, large windows, or privacy. Keeping windows uncovered allows for maximum natural light and creates a seamless connection between the indoors and outdoors.
Tip: If keeping windows bare, try adding updated or bold window trim to help frame it out more intentionally.
Common Window Treatment Questions:
Now, when we have a basic rectangle window in simple living room, it can be easy to decide on window treatments, but what about trickier ones?
What to Do With Small Windows?
Every window is different but typically, for smaller windows Iโd suggest avoiding curtains – especially short ones! ,
If privacy is needed, woven wood shades are a great option.
Or, if possible, leave that window naked! Especially in the those older 80’s homes with triangle or oddly shaped windows – don’t bend yourself into a pretzel trying to figure out what to cover them with, just leave them bare. You have my permission.
What Window Treatments for Sliding Glass Doors?
Ooh, this can be a tricky one! In many spaces, I leave them completely bare especially if there is a good view.
However, because it can be necessary to keep the room warm or adjust lighting throughout the day, Iโve found that linen curtains pulled to side opposite of door handle can be both functional and pretty.
