Benjamin Moore Onyx Paint Review
It’s no secret I’m a long time fan of black paint. From accent walls to doors to entire houses, I enjoy a good black paint. Previously, I’ve stuck close to a few standbys but recently, I tried a new to me color, Benjamin Moore Onyx black paint. This felt like a big risk as I used it for tackling my office cabinets – but, spoiler alert, I love how it turned out. Here, I’ll share my honest review, notes about undertones, and comparisons to other top black paint shades.
Onyx Description and Undertones
Benjamin Moore Onyx 2133-10 is a classic, deep black that has very subtle brown undertones making it ever so slightly warm. At a glance it reads like a deep, true black, but side by side it’s softer, more muted side comes through.
Coordinating Paint Colors
Because Onyx 2133-10 is a warmer black paint color, it works well with true neutral or warmer colors. It works well with neutral white colors like Chantilly Lace or warmer shades like White Dove.
As for other colors, Onyx would work well general neutrals like muted greens and neutral paint colors.
Onyx vs Tricorn Black
Compared to Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black, Benjamin Moore Onyx is a slightly more luxurious, soft black with depth. Tricorn, on the other hand, is an extremely neutral, very true black without any noticeable undertones.
While Tricorn Black has been my go to for years, I now consider Onyx to be up there as a contender as one of my favorites.
Benjamin Moore Onyx vs Wrought Iron
Benjamin Moore Onyx and Wrought Iron are both popular black paint colors but really different from each other. Onyx is a dark, slightly warmer black while Wrought Iron has subtle blue undertones making it a cooler black. Wrought Iron is more of a deep gray but can be difficult to pair with other colors with it’s cooler undertones.
Onyx vs Sherwin Williams Iron Ore
Onyx and Iron Ore are two really popular colors but very different. Benjamin Moore Onyx is a darker, warmer black while Sherwin Williams Iron Ore is technically more of a charcoal color with every so slight cool tone. Iron Ore is often considered a neutral but is lighter with very slight blue undertones.
