Ceiling Light FAQs
There are a few rules for light fixtures based on room size. One rule of thumb suggests adding the room length and width then using the total as the light guideline. So a 10 x 12 room would be 10+12 = 22, or 22″ being the largest diameter for a light fixture.
The small ceiling lights I rounded up here are pretty tiny, most under 10″ so these would work well for hallways, corners, above kitchen sinks, small laundry rooms, entryways and other small spaces.
Most small ceiling lights are designed for easy installation on standard junction boxes. If you’re replacing an existing light, it’s typically a straightforward swap. However, if you’re adding a fixture where no wiring exists, you’ll need professional help from an electrician.
Flush mounts are best for compact rooms or spaces with limited ceiling height such as hallways, closets, bathrooms, and small bedrooms. Chandeliers or pendants work better in rooms with higher ceilings (9+ feet) or where you want a statement piece.
