Sherwin Williams Pewter Green Review

Once upon a time, I painted our bathroom wall a dark green color. This was before I fell in love with black accent walls, I experimented with this color idea. In my mind, I was looking for an organic modern design – lots of contrast, nature, and deep rich greens. After remodeling the whole bathroom, I chose one wall to paint with Sherwin Williams Pewter Green. I’m sharing my thoughts and other earthy green paint colors here to help you decide what’s right for you space.

Sherwin Williams Pewter Green Description

Pewter Green from Sherwin Williams goes by the color code SW 6208 and is a dark, muted, forest green. It was named as Sherwin Williams color of the month in 2020 and definitely stands the test of time as a classic, earthy paint color.

It can appear a touch cool in some lighting so I’d be cautious about pairing with overtly warm shades. While I do love green in general and Pewter Green is a lovely, neutral color, I wanted something even darker and more deep. Pewter Green is not quite as dark as it appears on the color chart. It feels lighter and a touch airier than I had hoped.

Color Undertones

After a lot of research, I chose Pewter Green as it tends to work as a true neutral, without strong undertones.  Some greens can appear too blue but Pewter Green SW 6208 has strong gray tones making it feel like a true neutral color that can work with many different colors.

That said, it can some instances such as a north facing room appear a tiny bit cooler. It can feel a little less muted and more of a lush, cool green.

Where to Use Pewter Green

While I used Pewter Green for an accent wall, it also works well on kitchen cabinets and bathroom cabinetry. I’ve also seen it used for home exteriors and fits in perfectly with Pacific Northwest landscape and scenery.

With cabinets, this color of green would look really pretty with natural wood butcher block or white quartz countertops. When using next to other wall colors, I’d stick to a true neutral white, such as Pure White or Chantilly Lace as it really warm whites or grays will likely make it feel a little muddy.
