Chantilly Lace vs Pure White – Paint Comparison

I’ve explored my fair share of white paint over the last ten years – probably more trial and error than necessary. But, all that painting means I landed on some tried and true favorite white paint. Here, I’m sharing my thoughts on Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace vs Pure White from Sherwin Williams. Let’s see how they compare!

First, painting a home all white inside, is pretty much my starting point for every home I’ve lived in. When choosing a white paint, it’s super important to find one that is a true neural.

Isn’t every white color a neutral? You might ask. Well, no, they’re not. You probably have encountered white paints that end up looking really creamy or maybe even feel dirty or seem to be yellow or pink in some lights. Welp, these are on the warmer end of things. Warm colors have undertones of red and orange – they certainly have their place but can quickly go sideways.

Well, what about those white paints that feel icy or cold, maybe a little sterile like a doctor’s office? Those would be your cool white paints. And you guessed it, they have a lot of blue undertones.

Neutral whites have a balanced undertone, meaning they have even blues and reds and are balanced out. Ok, now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s dive into Chantilly Lace vs. Pure White!

Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace  OC65:

This is a fan favorite white paint. Like other Benjamin Moore colors, I find it really stands the test of time. It’s probably one of the truest of true whites out there and is a great option for walls.

Chantilly Lace is a good solid white that looks great in both light and shadows. That said, it has the slightest hint of coolness. On wintry days, it can look a little bit cool – especially compared to a warm white. However, this is so minimal, I wouldn’t call it a cool white and it’s still one of my go to colors.

Chantilly Lace is perfect for modern, minimal spaces looking for a bright, fresh look.

Use Benjamin Moore’s lighting simulator (one of my favorite tools!) to see how it changes throughout the day and with ambient light.

Sherwin Williams Pure White SW 7005:

Pure White is one of the most popular whites out there – and for good reason. Just like the name indicates, it’s a good true white color. I’m sitting in my office staring at it right now! You might notice that Pure White is ever so slightly warm, meaning it has a touch of red undertone. This keeps it from feeling chilly or sterile.

Pure white works well for cabinets, trim, and walls. I’ve used it for all the above. If you like white kitchen cabinets, you probably have seen Pure White paint in action.

I’ve never seen it become too warm though – it’s not like a creamy or off white that starts to feel a little muddled. Pure White is a great option for updated, transitional spaces for a clean yet soft vibe.

Similarities:

Now that we’ve looked at each one, here’s how Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace vs Pure White from Sherwin Williams compares:

  • Both a true, neutral white
  • Great options for walls and trim
  • Low undertones make it easy to work with

Differences:

  • Chantilly Lace has very slight cool undertone
  • Pure White has very subtle warm undertone
  • Chantilly Lace is one of the brightest whites available, reflecting a ton of light, making it an excellent choice for creating a crisp and airy feel.
  • Pure White – While still very bright, it is slightly less reflective than Chantilly Lace, giving it a softer, more muted appearance in certain lighting.

Both Chantilly Lace and Pure White rank of some of the top designer white paint color options. However, there are some other options you might be curious about too.

Alabaster from Sherwin Williams is often a top choice but personally, I think it is much too warm and can look muddled with other colors. Especially when compared to Pure White or Chantilly Lace.

  • Benjamin Moore’s White Dove (OC-17): A soft, warm white with subtle gray undertones, making it a versatile choice for walls, trim, and cabinetry.
  • Sherwin-Williams’ Alabaster (SW 7008): A warm, creamy white
  • Benjamin Moore’s Simply White (OC-117): A bright, clean white with a hint of warmth

Final Thoughts:

I hope this comparison of Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace vs Pure White from Sherwin Williams highlights these two neutral white paint colors. At the end of the day, both are my go to options for a true, neutral white. Whether you prefer the ever-so-slightly cool crispness of Chantilly Lace or the gentle warmth of Pure White, you really can’t go wrong.
