Black Wrapping Paper Gifts
Christmas preparations are in full swing around here! If you saw our holiday home tour last weekend you know I’m all about neutral holiday decor. It’s the same with wrapping presents! For years, I used plain kraft paper, which I still love. However, I’ve moved onto to something more dramatic and magical. Today, I’m sharing my black wrapping paper ideas for simple holiday decor. Because wrapping gifts is a family affair, you’ll see little touches from my 8 year old too!

In general, I love the idea of choosing a single paper color for wrapping gifts each year. This embraces the minimal vibes I love, but it helps streamline the whole wrapping process. My other favorite choices include plain white paper or traditional kraft paper—both of which are great neutral options. Not only does this make gifts look really lovely and minimal, but it also saves money and reduces clutter compared to the chaos of multiple mismatched wrapping paper rolls. Plus, I use the paper throughout the year.
This holiday, black wrapping paper is my favorite. The deep matte black serves as a bold contrast against twine, greenery, and natural elements, making each gift feel both modern and cozy.

Black Christmas Gift Wrapping Supplies
You might already have many of these items on hand, but here are key supplies I used:
- Black Kraft Roll – high-quality, matte black roll
- Jute String – rustic, natural element that is useful throughout the year
- White Chalk Pen – Perfect for labeling gifts with handwritten names or even festive drawings
- Greenery: Rosemary Sprigs, Cedar, Pine, and even Eucalyptus would be pretty
Where to buy matte black wrapping paper?
Many craft stores carry plain, matte black wrapping paper though I order mine in large rolls online. Amazon carries a lightweight roll of black kraft paper that I use for Christmas gifts and throughout the year. It’s easy to fold and has a nice, rich, flat black color. While I’m at it, I’ve gathered up my favorite Amazon Christmas Decorations to add more neutral modern holiday decor.

After wrapping each gift with the black paper. I tied a bow with natural Jute twine. This is my go-to string for so many DIY projects. I also used it for my Modern Hoop Wreath and the Brass Bell Garland. It’s practical and also adds pretty texture and warmth.
Finally, we finished them up with writing names using a White Chalk Pen -this is where my son helped – I cherish seeing his handwriting! I love how the white pen looks against the black – it would also be really fun to draw little trees or snowflakes.

To finish them off, I tucked some fresh greenery under the strong. I used Rosemary & Cedar from our yard – and for the lovely smell! If you don’t have access to rosemary or cedar, little pine branches or eucalyptus stems would be equally lovely!

How to use black wrapping paper?
You might be wondering just how to use this black paper. In addition to these lovely Christmas gifts, I’ve also used this same paper as bold, casual table cloth during the holidays and get togethers.
- Table Decor – I’ve used this same paper as a functional table cloth during festive get togethers
- DIY Artwork – Frame a section of black paper and use a white chalk pen to create simple, minimalist art
- Book Covers – Wrap old books in black paper to create a cohesive look on bookshelves or coffee tables.
- Cabinet Drawer Liners – Use it to line drawers or shelves for a sleek, modern touch

Final Thoughts
I hope you enjoy these black wrapping paper gift ideas and feel inspired to create a simple, intentional holiday. Whether you go all-in on black paper or mix it with kraft or white for a layered effect, the key is keeping things cohesive and stress-free.
