My Holiday Home Decor Tour

Hello, friends! It’s been a full month around here—new projects, shifting routines, and finding our footing in this new season of life. Still, the boys and I are soaking up our favorite Christmas traditions: holiday movies, twinkling lights, and lots of cozy evenings together. And while this year’s holiday home decor is a bit more minimal than years past, I’m completely at peace with it. In fact, I’m loving it.

This season, I’ve embraced simple, meaningful touches throughout our home – things that feel festive without the overwhelm. If you’re craving a cozy, minimal vibe this year, I hope this tour offers a little inspiration.

Our sweet, little tree!

Christmas Tree Styling

Say hello to our sweet little tree! It’s smaller and simpler than in years past, but I love it’s little joyful spirit. I focused more on the experience of finding the tree and enjoying some hot chocolate than grand decorations. In fact, all of the tree ornaments are handmade ones I’ve made over the years or mementos the boys have gathered.

I tried something different this year and used a large Turkish towel to wrap the tree base. I love how it’s neutral and functional and much prettier than a typical tree skirt.

Each year, I decorate mostly with fresh greenery—it’s beautiful, budget-friendly, and compostable! I gather rosemary, cedar, and fir from our property to create a natural, inviting feel. In the past, I’ve also asked Christmas tree lots for their clippings and kept my eye out on hikes. Of course, Trader Joe’s & Costco always seem to have a great greenery selection too.

In our entryway, I casually draped a cedar garland along the stair railing for a soft, effortless look. It’s a little wild so maybe too effortless! I also made a Modern Minimal Hoop Wreath using simple brass rings and clippings. It took all of 10 minutes, but adds so much charm. Coming back years later to say this little minimal wreath is still one of my favorite DIY projects and one I make every year!

Of course, Pete the cat had to inspect everything. He’s very involved in the process.

Little Festive Details

We spend most of our evenings cuddled up in this family room so I keep the holiday home decor cozy and simple. I added a little faux tree, which I placed inside a ceramic planter to make it feel a little more modern (it had burlap wrap). At night, it’s even more festive with the little twinkly lights.

With a mug of cocoa & a holiday movie, I wrapped our gifts here using kraft and black wrapping paper along with greenery sprigs and dried oranges. At first, the black paper shocked a few, but it’s my go to choice for Christmas gifts here on out.

Kitchen Christmas Decor

Overall, when decorating, I like to use what I’ve already got on hand. The kitchen is no different! A few small changes can make it feel festive without interfering with functionality. I tucked rosemary sprigs into vases, tied cedar clippings to a wooden cutting board, and added mini wreaths to doorknobs and cabinet pulls. These are actually a version of DIY ornaments I made last year—still going strong!

I also pulled in a soft seasonal touch with “Meadow,” a green-hued tree print from Juniper Print Shop. It’s not overtly Christmas-y, which I love because it works all winter long. I love finding items that work all year long but become more festive when there’s a bit of holiday context. Next to the little white ceramic trees, the print becomes more wintery whereas with some dried grass in the spring, it would just feel nature inspired.

Of course, my wood shelves are a perfect way to add holiday home decor – I mix in matte, neutral pieces with the already functional bowls, plates, and cups. Here, the greenery adds a little festive touch while the word sign keeps it fun. I mean, Christmas Vacation, is a holiday staple around here so why not mix in some quotes!

The holiday shelf styling extends beyond the kitchen. Here I’ve added a few festive details to our bookshelf as well. Because I really prefer to repurpose items than use traditional store bought decor (who wants to store all that anyway?!), I’ve found that many items seem festive when they’re grouped together. A bit of winter greenery, a pinecone and my favorite cozy candle completes this simple little collection.

One of my favorite aspects of decorating for the holidays is pulling out those memory-filled treasures! When my oldest son was a toddler, he loved nutcrackers. We happened upon this cowboy one at the craft store and he just loved it. Although I was on a tight budget, I splurged and still love seeing my son’s smile every year we bring him out (which is now over a decade!)

Bathroom Holiday Home Decor

Why stop the greenery at the living room? I carried those natural touches into the bathroom too. Nothing too elaborate but some sprigs in an amber vase (recycle kombucha bottle!) feels really cozy and special. I also added the metallic silvery candle holder for a more festive touch.

In addition to more shelf styling now here in the bathroom. I added another wreath here too. You can probably tell—I’m obsessed with hoop wreaths. They’re simple, quick, and elegant. I made another one for the bathroom and hung it the accent wall (the greenery with black background is pure magic). It took me 10 minutes and brings instant cheer to this space

Holiday Table Decor

When it comes to tables and counters, I keep those minimal too. Typically, I group together greenery, a candle, and a natural element. The law of threes works well for holiday home decor too! You might remember my simple holiday table decor , where I started with basic elements like a pinstripe table runner and charcoal linen napkins and added rosemary, pinecones, and tea lights. So easy!

Final Thoughts

Thank you so much for joining me on this cozy little holiday home decor tour. Whether you go all out with decorating or keep it simple like me this year, I hope you find joy in the process and create a space that feels authentic to you. Remember, festive doesn’t have to mean flashy. A few intentional touches—some greenery here, a candle there—can turn your home into a warm, welcoming place to land during the winter season.
