Chantilly Lace vs Pure White – Real Home Paint Comparison
I’ve explored my fair share of white paint over the last ten years – probably more trial and error than necessary. But, all that painting means I landed on some tried and true favorite white paint. I love a good white paint as it create a nice, clean slate and the right white paint feels fresh and modern. Here, I’m sharing my thoughts on Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace vs Pure White from Sherwin Williams. Both are neutral white paint colors I keep on hand at all times – I’ve even done a few youtube videos on them (see below). Here, I’ll share how their undertones match up, a full review of each, and my real home photos to give more context.
Chantilly Lace vs Pure White – Undertones
| Paint | Undertone | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Chantilly Lace | Slight cool undertone | bright modern whites |
| Pure White | Slight warm undertone | softer, warmer interiors |
Both of these white paint colors are overall really versatile and great fairly neutral white paints to work with. In looking at the undertones, meaning what are the subtle colors that come through, we can see some differences. Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace has very slight icy undertones, making it slightly cool. The undertones are very subtle as it’s nearly a true white but it will look more stark in cooler lighting.
On the other hand, Sherwin Williams Pure White has very subtle warm undertones, making it a warm, soft white paint color. The undertones are very subtle and, in my experience, it does not change much with lighting or during the day. It has just a touch of warmth making it a softer, easier white paint color to work with.
Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace – Full Review
Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace OC65 is a solid neutral white paint colors. It’s probably one of the truest of true whites out there and is perfect for modern, minimal spaces looking for a bright, fresh look. Chantilly Lace has an LRV of 90.04 meaning it will reflect a lot of light as a bright white paint. I used it on all of the walls throughout my home. Like other Benjamin Moore colors, I find it really stands the test of time.
That said, Chantilly Lace has the slightest hint of coolness. On wintry days or north facing light, it can look a little bit cool – especially compared to a warmer white, like Pure White. However, this is so minimal, I wouldn’t call it a cool white, but it is something to keep in mind.
Use Benjamin Moore’s lighting simulator (one of my favorite tools!) to see how it changes throughout the day and with both ambient and natural light. Factoring in lighting is so important when choosing paint colors – and is especially notable with white paint!
Sherwin Williams Pure White – Full Review
Sherwin Williams Pure White 7005 is one of the most popular white paint colors out there – and for good reason. Just like the name indicates, it’s a good true white color. I’m sitting in my office staring at it right now! You might notice that SW Pure White is ever so slightly warm, meaning it has a touch of pink undertone. This keeps it from feeling chilly or sterile. Pure White has an LRV of 84, which means on a scale of 100 it reflects a fair amount of light but it’s not as bright as other colors with a higher value, like Chantilly Lace.
Pure White works well for cabinets, trim, and walls. I’ve used it for all the above. If you like white kitchen cabinets, you probably have seen Pure White paint in action. I’ve never seen it become too warm though – it’s not like a creamy or off white that starts to feel a little muddled. Pure White is a great option for updated, transitional spaces for a clean yet soft vibe.
Chantilly Lace & Pure White FAQs
Between Pure White and Chantilly Lace white paint, Pure White is often a better match for warm woods. Its slight warmth helps plays well with warmer woods and colors. Chantilly Lace can work too, though it will create a more modern, contrasting look.
No. Chantilly Lace is a very neutral white paint color as it has very minimal undertones. This means it doesn’t look yellow or pinkish like some white. This makes it a favorite for those wanting a true, clean white.
Both white paints can work well for kitchen cabinets but will have slightly different results. Chantilly Lace offers a bright, modern, and crisp finish that’s great for modern kitchens. Pure White is probably more common and has a slightly softer, warmer tone, which can make a kitchen feel more inviting and cozy.
Popular Interior White Paint Colors:
Both Chantilly Lace and Pure White rank of some of the top designer white paint color options. However, there are some other options you might be curious about too. Alabaster from Sherwin Williams is often a top choice but personally, I think it is much too warm and can look muddled with other colors. Especially when compared to Pure White or Chantilly Lace.
- Benjamin Moore’s White Dove (OC-17): A soft, warm white with subtle gray undertones, making it a versatile choice for walls, trim, and cabinetry.
- Sherwin-Williams’ Alabaster (SW 7008): A warm, creamy white

What is Neutral White Paint?
Is every white paint color a neutral? No, they’re not. You probably have encountered white paints that end up looking really creamy or maybe even feel dirty or seem to be yellow or pink in some lights. Welp, these are on the warmer end of things. Warm colors have undertones of red and orange – they certainly have their place but can quickly go sideways.
Well, what about those white paints that feel icy or cold, maybe a little sterile like a doctor’s office? Those would be your cool white paints. And you guessed it, they have a lot of blue undertones. Neutral whites have a balanced undertone, meaning they have even blues and reds and are balanced out.
